Week 9 My last post

I can't believe this is my last post. I learned a lot of things through this programme. Some of them I thought very useful like newsreader, LibraryThing, Delicious, online productivity tools and of course eBooks and eAudioBooks, some of them I didn't think I would use often like Twitter, Technorati or Rollyo but it was good to know they existed. This has been an interesting journey for me and thanks to everyone who set up this programme and read my blogs even though they weren't very interesting. Now I need to think what I am going to do tonight, bye..

Week 9 eBooks and eAudio books

Today I looked at eBooks and eAudio books. TumbleReadables seemed fun for kids to read along and the Tumble Quiz would make sure the children understand the story. I had seen a lot of children use it in our library. I thought Downloadable media was quite good for those who spent a lot of time on the road and the best of all, they didn't need to pay $3 for each item. On NetLibrary, I created a free account and added 5 books to my favourites but I wasn't too keen on the netLibrary. I didn't like reading a big fat book in front of a computer, that would be tiring (I'm lazy). Also I found page search function on NetLibrary wasn't working. When I entered a page number to search, it came up a message saying "The requested page could not be found".

Week 9 Podcasts

Today I looked at Podcasts. Podcast.net and Yahoo Podcasts were no longer available. I searched on podcastalley.com using key words "library news", there were 200 results for it. I tried to listen to a couple of them but the sound kept breaking up. I then subscribed salt lake county library's podcast to my Bloglines account, just wanted to know what was happening in the library which was on the other side of the world.

Week 9 YouTube

Today I looked at You Tube. You Tube is a video sharing website that allows users upload and share videos. Its a great way to broadcast yourself and its all free. The video I chose for my blog called "This is China". I chose this video because I came from China and I thought this video showed the best of China.

Week 8 Web 2.0 Tools

Today I looked at some Web 2.0 sites, mainly Lulu and Biblio. Lulu was a self publishing website. It was for writers who would like to put their work in a book. I wouldn't have a book to publish anytime soon (maybe never), so I had a look on Biblio as well. Biblio was a website for selling used, rare books. It looked like a perfect place for book collectors to find their beloved books which were out of print. It would be a good suggestion for our customers who wanted books that no longer available in our library.

Week 8 Online Produtivity Tools

Today I looked at some online productivity tools and created an account for myself in Zoho Writer, then wrote a test document. I found Zoho Writer was quite good because it was easy to use and it could be accessed from anywhere. Often we had patrons have problems opening their files on USB drive in our library because of compatible issues. If patrons used online productivity tools, they wouldn't have to worry about anything. Here is the link to my test document. The link didn't seem working. I copied the document from Zoho then pasted it to my Google Docs, ticked checkbox for my document and chose "get the link to share" from Share tab. It worked.

Week 7 PBwiki

This week I also looked at PBWiki, added my blog to Favourite Blogs page and added some movies I liked to Favourite Movies page. They were very easy and fun. I just logged on using ACL email address and password, found Favorite Blogs and clicked on Edit, then copied my blog URL and pasted to it. Done.
